Brandyn Johnston, 24, was arraigned on an eight-count indictment and charged with:

  • Two counts of felony attempted murder
  • Three counts of felony violent burglary
  • One count of felony assault
  • One count of felony attempted assault
  • One count of felony criminal possession of a weapon

“The defendant’s jealousy turned violent, resulting in the senseless attack on a young woman and the wounding of an innocent man, said Rockland County District Attorney Zugibe. "She fell victim to the defendant’s explosive temper and, as a result, will suffer physical and emotional pain for the rest of her life."

The attack took place on Sept. 17, when Johnston allegedly sent a series of threatening text messages to an ex-girlfriend and mother of their child. According to the charges, the content of the messages blamed the ex-girlfriend for “everything that’s gunna happen.”

Johnston also  threatened the woman’s new boyfriend via text message, writing he would send the man to the hospital “on sight.” He also threatened to “cut his face open” in a separate text message.

Around 11 p.m., Johnston kicked in the door to the woman’s home, Zugibe said.

According to the charges, Johnston pulled out a knife before stabbing the ex-girlfriend in the elbow and torso. He then stabbed the woman’s current boyfriend at least 12 times in the face, chest, stomach, and back. The man suffered a collapsed lung and underwent emergency surgery.

The two-year-old child was home at the time of the attack.

Johnston faces a maximum of 25 years in state prison on the top charge, Zugibe said.
